WORK IN THE UK

You will need have a skilled Worker visa or Graduate visa or other work visa.

Skilled Worker visa

This is a popular visa which allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer.

1. Eligible job:

    • work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
    • have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
    • do a job that’s on the list of eligible occupations
    • be paid a minimum salary – how much depends on the type of work you do
2. Salary requirements

You’ll usually need to be paid at least £25,600 per year or £10.10 per hour, whichever is higher. If the ‘going rate’ for your job is higher than both of these, you’ll usually need to be paid at least the going rate.

3. Knowledge of English

You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English. You’ll usually need to prove your knowledge of English when you apply.

 

You cannot:

  • apply for most benefits, or the State Pension
  • change jobs or employer unless you apply to update your visa

*If you or your family are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein

  You may be able to apply to the free EUSS, if you or your family member started living in the UK by 31 December 2020.

 Otherwise you need a visa to work in the UK.
